Adding Pages    avg: 0.0 (0 ratings)

To add a new page to Wiki, all you have to do is come up with a meaningful title, capitalize all the words and StringThemTogetherLikeThis. Wiki automagically recognizes it as a hyperlink. Alternatively, you can put anything into square brackets.

Then you can go ahead and ClickTheQuestionMark at the front of your new hyperlink, and the Wiki will give you a window for making the new page.

There is also a CreatePage box on the search results or some other pages. You may type in the name of your page, and hit the CreatePage button. Please search for similar pages first, so we don't get lots of duplicate pages. Here is a CreatePage box:

DanCo: You could just tell the CreatePage form to do a search and if it finds exact (or maybe even near) matches to tell the user and ask "are you sure you want to create that page?

If you wish to add documents with complex markup to the Wiki, you might be better off providing a URL to it than trying to add the text of the document here, like so:

The Wiki does not support HTML tags (see TextFormattingRules). <tags>They will just render like text.</tags> Wiki is meant to be as simple as possible to encourage use.

Note that there is a feature that your system administrator can enable to allow embedded HTML, but there are security risks involved.

DanCo: I'd be interested in allowing embedded img tags, maybe. It'd be a handy way to prototype a photo album wiki, which I've toyed with as a reasonable way to create a group album that has some chance of accumulating metadata.

Lando: How can I change page name or delete page? I made category TV-Show and mmade a mistake with one page name (Wire). Who can delete duplicate pages? There are already several category suggestions which are duplicates (Here). (added at 05:36:00 AM on 01/07/06)

DanFr: Sadly, it is not currently possible to change a page name or delete a page. The reason for this is that it is not currently reversible, meaning that a vandal could come in and ruin the database by deleting pages. To delete a page, see directions on DeleteThisPage. Perhaps we should have a similar RenameThisPage. (added at 08:42:36 AM on 01/07/06)

Lando: RenameThisPage could work as fine too. For example I had trouble choosing whether I put word "The" in names of TV shows "Shield" and "Wire" because I am not sure which way they are normally called in USA (The Shield vs. Shield). So if I made a mistke, then someone else could rename that page. (added at 09:31:03 AM on 01/07/06)

Lando: There is constant need for RenameThisPage -feature. I installed page from Amazon and got this kind of page name. I don't dare to add more AC/DC albums before there is RenameThisPage -feature. (added at 08:27:12 AM on 01/11/06)

Lando: Why does Wikilens show names of pages which aren't saved? Here is one Soda (ale81) which doesn't have a page. I made same kind of mistake when adding a page (Wire, The) into TV-show category. I hit only "preview" button but didn't hit "save". Still I see that name of the page in category's page listing. If You have opportunity, could You clean up from database those pagenames which doesn't link to anywhere.(added at 09:38:29 AM on 01/07/06)

grplens: A page is partially created when it is edited. To remove it, I have to create the page fully and then delete it. (added at 08:55:55 AM on 01/11/06)

Lando: I noticed that page is partially created when I hit CreatePage button, even without adding any data into it. There is a problem, what if I make mistake with pagename spelling? Then I must create the page and ask you to DeleteThisPage and start all over again. And even if I use RenameThisPage, I still have to wait that You rename that page. This problem (I can't change pagename after hitting CreatePage-button) is quite annoying, because when I add books or albums from Amazon, I might want to edit pagename a bit, if that name is incorrect or too long for example Like this.(added at 03:36:13 AM on 01/12/06)
